Nomads had its humble beginnings operating out of a small van with a roll of fabric and a couple of sewing machines. This inspired the company's name. After a few years on the road going from friends' places to festivals, they set foot in beautiful Nelson, BC where they made the discovery of a newly polished fiber, hemp. They rapidly fell in love with the idea of making clothes from this Earth friendly thread. For the first year afterwards, they spent most of their time dying, cutting, sewing, and embroidering the raw hemp material, transforming it into stylish finished garments. The demand rapidly grew to unexpected proportions and their little two man sweatshop had more work than it could handle. They then moved their production to the manufacturing level where they were able to produce and distribute a quality and durable hemp product to their supportive stores.
Thanks to advancements in textile technology, hemp and other sustainable fabrics like soy and bamboo have taken a huge leap in quality and softness in the last few years. These superior textiles are also environmentally friendly and choosing clothing made from them has a positive impact on our health and the health of the planet.
They now design two lines of their funky clothes per year in the most comfy yet tough natural fiber available to mankind. They believe that by creating more sustainablity, we are moving in the right direction. Hemp is the fiber of the future, and they will keep pushing its quality forward with innovative and modern designs that perfectly reflect our place and time on this wonderful planet.
